If we take talent off the table (and that would have to be a pretty big table) I’m sure many of us would totally love to receive the enormous amounts of acclaim, love, celebrity and wealth this young man is beautifully blessed to have bestowed upon him. Ah, if only life was fair. (You can lower your hands now if you haven’t already.) But this photograph speaks to a less celebrated aspect the Game of Fame we “civilians” may never ever experience. Despite his many sundries of accomplishments, Derrick feels “uneasy with fame.” So right at this point you’re thinking; Time out! Who would be so not in-sync with the American Celebritocracy as to express such dissonance with what we’re all led to believe as the great, grand and glorious destination of being on top? But once you listen to Mr. Rose open up about the pressures of performing and absence of anonymity you begin to understand the malaise beneath the majesty and ultimately why this photograph pulls at you in the way that it does.
