Diane Paulus’s ‘Porgy and Bess’ gets 10 Tony Award nominations


“The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess,’’ a revival of the George Gershwin classic that began life last fall at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge before moving to Broadway, has racked up 10 Tony Award nominations, second only to “Once,’’ which received 11 nominations. “Nice Work If You Can Get It” also received 10 nominations.

“Porgy and Bess’’ was nominated for best revival of a musical, and Diane Paulus, the ART’s artistic director, was nominated as best director of a musical. For her unforgettable performance as the tormented Bess, Audra McDonald was nominated as best actress in a musical.

Harvard, MIT announce new partnership that will offer free online classes


Beginning this fall, a variety of courses developed by faculty at both institutions will be available online through the new $60 million partnership, known as “edX.”

Anyone with an Internet connection anywhere in the world can have access,” Harvard President Drew Faust said during a news conference to announce the initiative.
